Ensign & Thayer   State of New York.  Ensign, Thayer & Co., 1851. 18mo, embossed roan, cerograph, outline color, 19.7" x 26". Clean and bright, few repaired separations, very good or better.  $300.00
An uncommon pocket map of the state likely intended as a traveler's guide. County borders and rail routes are brightly colored in outline. An historical sketch, population table, large rail station and distance table and vignette of the state seal and motto appear. O.A. Hall - Morse's Cerography is credited with the lettering. Wax engraved maps issued by Ensign, Thayer et al, considering their rather crude appearance and lack of detail, probably did not sell quite well during the 1850's

In the foreground appear Matthew Brady's Daguerreotype Gallery and P.T. Barnum's Museum. Additional floors emerge on the buildings in this state indicating Papprill kept the view up to date.

Development within Pleasantville and Pinehurst is limited to a handful of new residences and public buildings. Philadelphia and New York City appear visible on the horizon.   Reps notes only one state.  Very Scarce.
